The Power of Deciding: How to Take Control of Your Life

I watched a video today about the importance of making a decision and sticking to it. In this case, we can compare making a decision to setting an intention.

Both are mindset hacks since they involve changing the way you think.

When you decide or intend to get rid of something in your life. The mind will help you direct your thoughts and energy so that your intention becomes a reality.

When you set an intention, you’re declaring that you want something to change in your life.

But it doesn’t stop there. Once you’ve decided to stop mindlessly watching Netflix or quit smoking, take action to make it happen.

You don’t have to achieve your goal right away, but you should make a plan, develop a strategy, and take steps in the right direction to ensure you achieve what you set out to do.

When you focus on your intention and take action towards it, you are more likely to succeed.

Here are five tips you can follow to make it happen:

Be as specific as possible.

It’s important to be specific with your intentions.

Instead of saying, “I want to be healthier,” try saying, “I want to lose 10 pounds in the next 6 months.”

The more specific your intention, the easier it will be to track your progress and stay motivated. Because tracking is the key to success.

Make it positive and stay centred on it.

Your intention should be something that you want to achieve, not something that you want to avoid.

Instead of saying, "I do not want to be stressed any longer," try saying, "I want to be more relaxed and at peace."

When you focus on what you want instead of what you don’t want, you will be more likely to attract it into your life.

Stay centred on the intention, since it is more powerful when it comes from a place of contentment than if it arises from a sense of lack or need.

Staying centred and refusing to be influenced by other people's doubts or criticisms will help you stay the course.

Believe in yourself, no matter what.

If you don’t believe that you can achieve your intention, then the likelihood of that happening will become your reality.

You don’t want that. Instead, it’s important to have faith in yourself and your abilities.

Always remind yourself of your strengths and accomplishments, and don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it.

Be patient, since achieving goals takes time.

All great things take time to come to life. Results take time to happen.

Keeping that in mind helps you not get discouraged if you don’t see results immediately.

Continue taking action while still believing in yourself. Soon enough, you will get to where you aimed for.

Connecting with your why will also help. Make sure your intention is deeply connected to your why since it is what drives you to achieve your goal and move forward towards it.

Keep your intention in mind.

Reminding yourself of your intention throughout the day helps keep you on track towards it.

At the start of your day, just when you wake up, take a few moments to remind yourself of your intention.

This will help you stay focused on it and keep you motivated.

For a few moments, you can write it down, say it to yourself, or even visualise yourself achieving it.

Staying focused on it will help make sure it deeply resonates with you, so you can feel its power inside you.

Your intention should make you want to jump out of bed and be ready to take on your day.

Setting an intention or deciding on what you want is a powerful way to create the life you want.

I set the intention of tracking my writing progress daily. I also decided to block out my time and stick to a schedule. Both of these things, along with the suggestions I have just given, will help me stay on track towards my goal.

I hope they help you with yours as well.
